THE S.A.D. Winter Blues
The beginning of the colder months can be a time of excitement (Christmas, winter holidays, snowfall) or it can be a time of dread as the longer nights and shorter days start to erode the enjoyment from the brighter, summer days in the form of Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.)
While not everyone experiencing these symptoms will have Seasonal Affective Disorder, common S.A.D Symptoms can present as some or all of these symptoms:
persistent low mood, withdrawal from friends and social activities, reduced sex drive, less sociable, over-sleeping and difficulty waking up in the mornings, tearfulness and an increased appetite for carbohydrates which can lead to weight gain which can cause further low mood and low self-esteem.
If you feel like this may apply to you then please see your local GP for a diagnosis and advice. If you’ve already been diagnosed, then essential oils can have benefits for affecting the neurological function by relaxation and uplifting the mood.
